For your learning enjoyment, here are some great and informative resources for cell phones. This list is in NO way definitive. Nevertheless it’ll start you on the track to cell phone obsession.
Official - Type pages
Verizon Wireless - My carrier of choice, and only carrier I’ve had in recent
years. #1 on Long Island and #1 by Consumer Reports. Check out the site for billing, or to buy a new phone, check out new deals, etc.
VText.com - Send a text message to anyone with a Verizon Wireless cell phone. Free for anyone, but uses the receivers text messages
VZWPIX.com - Send pictures and sounds to your EMS (Enhanced
Messaging Service) enabled Verizon Mobile device.
VZW with MSN - Use this when you have your paid mobile internet account
with Verizon. On this page you can set up Alerts, bookmarks, set up messengers and more
Verizon B2B Accessories - Although this site is a “business” accessory site, I was able to get my data cable and car charger for $40, over 30% savings.
They haven’t arrested me yet so go for it! Official branded accessories cheap!
AOL Mobile Instant Messaging - Commands for using AIM on your phone
using text messaging. On newer phones there is the graphic interface but for older style phones, or people who want more control, these commands are the answer!
Modding your phone
Brew Backups - You can find things on this site bordering on illegal, but what I like about it is the backgrounds and ring tones for your phone. The best
part of the site is that you can play the classic Nokia game “Snake” right on your PC!
Aeonnfluux - While on the topic of bordering on illegal, this site had all the
.mif’s you would ever need to get free Get It Now games. This site I found and began my infatuation with cell phones. Uber easy How To’s help you
remove the annoying VZW banner and of course how drivers for and instructions on how to use Bitpim.
Bitpim - This is the greatest open source program I’ve ever used. I think its
also the only open source program I’ve used. But you get a data cable for your phone and use this program to put ring tones and wallpaper on your
phone. Also overwrite brew files if you are feeling risky enough to edit the file system. Easy to use interface, and an all around wonderful program!
The program was designed for the LG VX4400, but coincidentally was easily adapted to the VX6000 and although you have to manually go in through the
file system you can use it with the VX7000. Also many Sanyo models are now supported.
LG VX4400 - The end all of all online 4400 manuals. Written by Roger Binns, the guy who programmed Bitpim it contains ALL you’d ever need to
know about the phone.
VX4400 Support - But if there was something that the tutorial didn’t cover,
ask your question here on this Yahoo! Group for the 4400. Over 7000 members, and about 10,000 messages, search the forum for answers or post
a question! Attn.: The link may not work unless you subscribe to the forum.
Graphics and Ring tones
Ringing Phone - Nice site for wallpaper if you have a data cable. Graphics are a good size for the outside LCD on the VX7000
Tag Tag - Ring tones, wallpaper, and of course the FREE INTERNET!
Check it out. And its actually legal!
MeRWiN’s Ring tone Search - Over 1,000 ring tones for older model
phones. I used the ring tone converter on my Kyocera a few years back, and wrote my own ring tones as well as was able to use the ring tones he prevaded.
News and Information
Phone Scoop - News, New FCC releases as well as carrier releases and
manufacturer releases. Check out the “phone finder” to find a phone that suits your needs. Forums will help you get started with your new phone infatuation.
Howard Forums - Great place for people who know a lot about phones and
who want to know more. Browse the forums for information on anything phone! My favorite thread is “Field Test” Under the Verizon carrier. It explains how to know how much signal you REALLY have.
J2me Versus Brew - If you ever wanted to know what the main difference
between Java scripts (that AT&T, T-Mobile & Sprint use) and the Brew script the Verizon uses, this site is a wonderful explanation.
