About the Joshua W. Vedder Memorial Camera
The Camera: Prosumer level Nikon D40 with the following points useful for theater photography: Low noise at higher ISO. I shoot between 800 and 1600 ISO. Has optional 3200 ISO but that is ususally grainy. Auto shutter speed, I can set the camera not to shoot any slower than 1/30 and it will adjust the fastest shutter speed for the scene. Large LCD to view pictures.
The Lenses: I have the starter 18-55mm lens that comes with the camera. Also a 55-200mm VR lens. This is my zoom lens I use only for the theater. It does not zoom out wide enough to get the whole stage, but it works very nicely otherwise. VR is vibration reduction.
About getting the Joshua W Vedder Memorial Camera: After a year of selling photos of theater productions on DVD's for $5, I finally saved up nearly enough to afford the camera. Thanks to a credit card and a donation from an "anonymous source" who the camera is named after, I was able to make the purchase and bring better pictures to productions.
